FeedMender/Errors/Promotional title

Common rejections

Promotional text in the title

The title identifies the product; the promotion belongs elsewhere in the listing. A title that says SALE! Merino jumper now 49 is advertising inside a field Google reserves for identification, and it is refused for it.

What Google requires

Identification, not persuasion

Titles must describe the product: what it is, its brand, its defining attributes. Price and promotion words, sale, discount percentages, free shipping, best price, do not belong there; Google renders price and any sale price separately from the title, from their own attributes. The same rule extends to other decoration: exclamation marks and attention-seeking punctuation count against the title.

What happens if you do not

The product is disapproved while the promotion runs

The bitter version of this failure: titles get promotional exactly when a campaign starts, so the disapproval lands at the moment the products were supposed to sell. And because the promotional prefix replaces descriptive words, the products that do slip through match fewer queries than the plain title would have.

How to fix it by hand

Move the promotion to the attributes built for it

  • Strip promotional wording from titles and put the discount in sale_price with its window; Google then displays the strikethrough price itself.
  • Rebuild the freed space with identifying terms: material, colour, size, model.
  • Fix the template that prepends the promotion, or the same prefix returns with the next campaign.

3 checks apply, read from the scanner's registry

Rewritten titles are grounded: every word is checked against your own product data, and a rewrite that introduces a claim your row does not contain is discarded in favour of the original.
