Common rejections
Missing value [description]
The description is the largest text field Google reads about your product and the one most feeds treat worst: missing, three words long, or full of markup from a rich-text editor.
What Google requires
Plain text that describes the product, up to 5000 characters
A description is required, in plain text: no HTML tags, no promotional content, up to 5000 characters. It should describe the product itself, its material, use, fit and contents, rather than the shop, the shipping policy or this week's discount.
What happens if you do not
A refusal when missing, quiet underperformance when thin
A missing description is a straightforward disapproval. The subtler cost is the thin one: a three-word description gives Google almost nothing to match queries against, so the product serves on fewer searches than its data would allow. HTML in the field, common when a CMS exports its rich-text body verbatim, is read as literal angle-bracket text and can fail the field entirely.
How to fix it by hand
Export the text, not the markup
- Map the product's plain-text description into the feed, stripping tags in the export template.
- Expand thin descriptions with what the product data already knows: material, dimensions, contents, compatibility.
- Trim over-limit descriptions to fit rather than letting them truncate mid-sentence, and keep the identifying substance early.
Which of our checks apply
4 checks apply, read from the scanner's registry
The scan measures each description against the limits and flags markup; rewrites in the paid step are grounded in your own row, never invented.

The quicker way
Let the scan find them
One scan shows which products Google will refuse for their description and which are quietly underperforming on a thin one. The scan to identify errors is free and shows every finding before you pay anything. You only pay for the fix.
